Punjab Expands Safe Cities Surveillance Network Across All Districts
Punjab – June 8, 2026
The Punjab government has completed the installation of surveillance cameras under the Punjab Safe Cities Authority project, extending the digital monitoring system to all districts of the province.
Officials confirmed that the upgraded network now links cameras installed in 43 cities with the central command and control center at the authority’s headquarters.
17,000 Cameras Deployed Across Punjab
According to authorities, around 17,000 surveillance cameras have been installed across Punjab. These cameras are being used for multiple purposes, including crime prevention, traffic monitoring, public safety, and support for the e-challan system.
The system allows real-time monitoring of major roads, public spaces, and sensitive locations, helping law enforcement agencies respond more effectively.
Project Expansion Underway
The Safe Cities initiative, originally launched during the tenure of former caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, has now been fully implemented across all districts under the current provincial administration led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Officials also announced that the next phase of the project will include the installation of more than 10,000 additional cameras across 98 tehsils.
Focus on Cost Efficiency and Wider Coverage
Authorities stated that the upcoming expansion will be completed at a reduced cost, with estimated savings of nearly 50 percent compared to earlier phases.
In the final stage, the surveillance network is expected to extend further down to the union council level, significantly increasing coverage across Punjab.
Integration of Private Cameras
Officials further revealed that private CCTV systems are also being integrated into the Safe Cities network. This step is aimed at improving surveillance coverage and supporting law enforcement agencies in maintaining public safety.
