Rory McIlroy Finishes Poorly After Tough Start at PGA Championship

Rory McIlroy endured a difficult opening round at the PGA Championship, finishing with a 4-over 74 after a late struggle at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.

Late Collapse Drops Score

McIlroy was in a relatively steady position for most of the round, but his performance dropped sharply at the end.

He made five bogeys in his final six holes, turning a manageable round into a disappointing finish.

Putting and Driving Problems

The Masters champion also struggled off the tee and on the greens, missing several short-range putts that cost him valuable shots.

Despite entering the tournament with an aggressive game plan, he was unable to consistently control his shots on a demanding course setup.

Difficult Start in Major Campaign

The result leaves McIlroy behind early in the competition as he continues his push for another major championship.

Statistically, starting a PGA Championship with a 74 makes a comeback victory very difficult, although not impossible.

Competitive Group Play

McIlroy played alongside Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm, who also faced testing conditions throughout the round.

With multiple rounds still to play, McIlroy will need to improve quickly to stay in contention for the title.
