Telenor Reportedly Exploring Sale of Easypaisa Stake

Norwegian telecommunications company Telenor ASA is reportedly evaluating strategic options for its investment in Easypaisa Bank, including a possible sale of its majority stake.

According to international media reports, Telenor is working with financial advisers to assess potential interest in its 55 percent shareholding in the digital banking platform. The discussions are said to be at an early stage, and no final decision has been announced.

Industry sources suggest that the stake could attract significant investor interest, reflecting Easypaisa’s position as one of Pakistan’s leading digital financial services providers.

Easypaisa’s Growing Role in Digital Finance

Easypaisa, which began as a mobile financial services platform, has evolved into a major player in Pakistan’s digital banking sector. The platform offers a range of services, including money transfers, digital payments, savings products, and financial solutions for individuals and businesses.

The remaining ownership stake in Easypaisa Bank is held by Ant Group.

Part of a Broader Strategic Review

The reported review comes after Telenor completed the sale of its telecommunications operations in Pakistan following regulatory approvals. A potential transaction involving Easypaisa would represent another step in the company’s ongoing efforts to optimize its international portfolio and focus on key markets.

Market observers note that any future decision will depend on business, regulatory, and investment considerations.

No Final Decision Yet

At present, discussions remain preliminary, and there is no confirmation that a sale will take place. Telenor has not announced any final agreement regarding its stake in Easypaisa.

If a transaction is pursued, it could attract interest from financial institutions, technology companies, and investors seeking opportunities in Pakistan’s growing digital banking and fintech sectors.
