Muslim-Majority Nations Welcome Hamas’s Response to Trump’s Gaza Peace Proposal: Pakistan FO
ISLAMABAD: Eight Muslim-majority countries that collaborated with US President Donald Trump’s administration on a peace plan to end the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict have welcomed the “steps taken by Hamas” in response to the proposal, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) said on Sunday.
According to the official statement, the foreign ministers of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt expressed support for Hamas’s positive response to Trump’s proposal aimed at ending the war in Gaza, ensuring the release of hostages, and initiating negotiations on implementation mechanisms.
“The ministers welcomed the steps taken by Hamas regarding President Trump’s proposal to end the war on Gaza, release all hostages — alive or deceased — and begin talks on the next phase,” the FO statement said.
The foreign ministers also welcomed President Trump’s call on Israel to immediately halt airstrikes in Gaza and move forward with the prisoner-hostage exchange agreement.
“They expressed appreciation for President Trump’s commitment to achieving peace in the region and noted that these developments present a real opportunity to establish a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire,” the statement added.
The group highlighted that the proposal could help address the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where millions have been affected by the conflict.
Hamas’s Readiness for Transitional Administration
The statement further noted that Hamas has expressed readiness to hand over Gaza’s administration to a transitional Palestinian Administrative Committee composed of independent technocrats — a move seen as a potential step toward Palestinian unity and stability.
The ministers urged the immediate launch of negotiations to determine the implementation mechanisms of the proposal and address all related aspects.
“The foreign ministers reaffirmed their joint commitment to supporting all efforts that can lead to an immediate end to hostilities, unrestricted humanitarian aid delivery, and a sustainable peace based on the two-state solution,” the FO said.
Path Toward Peace and Reconstruction
The statement concluded by emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive peace agreement that ensures:
-
No forced displacement of Palestinians
-
Safety and security of civilians
-
Return of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza
-
Unification of Gaza and the West Bank
-
Full Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories
-
Reconstruction and rehabilitation of Gaza
“This is a critical moment to create a pathway for just and lasting peace in the region, built on the foundation of a two-state solution,” the FO added.
