Virat Kohli hints at future ODI World Cup 2027 participation based on form and value to team
Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has indicated that his participation in the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup will depend on whether he feels he can still make a meaningful contribution to the team.
The 37-year-old batter said he has nothing left to prove and will only consider selection if he is confident about adding real value to the squad. Kohli is currently active in One Day Internationals after retiring from T20 internationals following India’s 2024 World Cup victory and later stepping away from Test cricket.
Despite his reduced international commitments, Kohli continues to show strong form in domestic and franchise cricket. In the ongoing Indian Premier League season, he has delivered consistent performances, including a century. Last year, he featured in 13 ODIs and scored 651 runs.
Kohli emphasized that his focus remains on fitness, preparation, and team contribution. He also said he does not want to be in a position where his place in the side is questioned despite consistent effort, adding that selection should be based on performance and overall value to the team.
One of the most successful batters in ODI history, Kohli has played more than 300 matches and scored close to 15,000 runs in the format, making him one of the leading run-scorers in the game’s history.
The ICC ODI World Cup 2027 is scheduled to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
