OGDCL Announces New Oil and Gas Discovery in Sindh

Pakistan’s state-owned Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a new oil and gas discovery from the Bobi Deep-1 exploratory well located in the Bobi and Dhamraki Mining Lease area of Sanghar district, Sindh.

According to a company notice issued on June 3, 2026, OGDCL operates the lease with a 100 percent working interest. During testing, the well produced approximately 2,000 barrels of oil per day and 1.1 million standard cubic feet of gas per day from the Massive Sand interval of the Lower Goru Formation.

The production test was conducted through a cased-hole Drill Stem Test, with the well operating at a choke size of 32/64 inch and a recorded wellhead flowing pressure of 1,050 pounds per square inch.

OGDCL stated that the Bobi Deep-1 well was re-entered on May 3, 2026, to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the Lower Goru Formation. The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,305 meters in the Sembar Formation using the company’s technical and operational resources.

The company noted that this marks the first hydrocarbon discovery from the Massive Sand play within the Bobi and Dhamraki Mining Lease area. Officials believe the result could support further exploration activities in nearby prospects and enhance understanding of the region’s resource potential.

OGDCL said the discovery may contribute to strengthening domestic energy supplies and expanding the country’s hydrocarbon resource base. The company added that continued exploration efforts are important for supporting Pakistan’s long-term energy requirements.

According to estimates cited by Arif Habib Limited, the discovery could have a positive impact on OGDCL’s future earnings, subject to production performance and development plans.

The announcement also highlights the ongoing potential of Pakistan’s sedimentary basins for energy exploration and resource development.
