Punjab Expands Green Electric Bus Service to Five More Districts
The Punjab government has announced a further expansion of its Green Electric Bus initiative, extending the public transport service to five additional districts as part of its efforts to improve environmentally friendly transportation.
According to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the electric bus service has now been launched in Chiniot, Sialkot, Okara, Murree, and Layyah, increasing the reach of the province’s growing electric public transport network.
More Electric Buses Planned Across Punjab
Speaking at the launch ceremony in Lahore, the chief minister said the provincial government plans to have around 1,100 electric buses operating in cities across Punjab by August 15, 2026.
She added that 1,500 electric buses are expected to be added during the current year, with the total fleet projected to reach 3,000 buses over the next three years.
Long-Term Expansion Plan
The Punjab government also outlined a longer-term goal of expanding the fleet to 5,000 electric buses within the next five years.
Officials say the project is intended to improve public transportation, increase access to modern transit services, and support cleaner urban mobility across the province.
The continued expansion of the Green Electric Bus network is expected to provide more commuters with access to electric public transport while contributing to the province’s broader transportation development plans.
