Rawalpindi Ring Road Landowners Await Compensation After Project Completion
Hundreds of landowners affected by the 38.5-kilometer Rawalpindi Ring Road project say they are still waiting to receive compensation for land acquired during the project’s development.
According to the affected residents, compensation awards have not yet been officially issued, and authorities have not announced the final rates or payment amounts for the acquired land.
Landowners Raise Concerns
The landowners said that hundreds of kanals of land belonging to around 200 owners in each of seven settlements were acquired for the Ring Road project.
They stated that they cooperated with the land acquisition process because they considered the project to be in the public interest. However, they say compensation remains pending despite the road’s completion.
The affected areas include:
- Mouza Kahi Mirbaz
- Khengar Kalan
- Hoshial
- Kamalpur
- Nearby localities
Delegation Meets Lawmaker
A delegation representing the affected landowners met MNA Engineer Qamarul Islam to discuss the issue.
The delegation included former local government representatives and community leaders, who requested that the matter be taken up with the relevant authorities.
Demand for Early Payment
The landowners have appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister and the Rawalpindi Commissioner to expedite the compensation process, issue the pending awards, and ensure timely payment.
They also announced plans to hold peaceful protests if the issue remains unresolved, including a demonstration outside the Commissioner’s Office and another protest during the Ring Road inauguration ceremony scheduled for August 14.
Authorities Respond
Engineer Qamarul Islam assured the delegation that the concerns of the affected landowners had been forwarded to the Punjab government and the Rawalpindi Commissioner.
Representatives of the landowners also said they plan to meet senior provincial officials in Lahore to seek an early resolution to the compensation matter.
