Humanoid Robot Records Faster 100-Metre Time Than Usain Bolt
A humanoid robot has attracted attention in Beijing after recording a 9.39-second time in a 100-metre sprint at the World Humanoid Robot Games.
The robot, named Lightning, completed the distance faster than Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt’s official 100-metre world record of 9.58 seconds, set in 2009.
The performance highlights the rapid development of humanoid robotics, with researchers and engineers working to improve robotic movement, balance, artificial intelligence and mechanical systems.
More Than 2,000 Robots Take Part
The World Humanoid Robot Games brought together more than 2,000 robots from 16 countries for a five-day event in Beijing.
The competition features robotics companies, research organizations and development teams from around the world. Robots are tested in a variety of activities designed to measure speed, coordination and autonomous movement.
Events include running, football, table tennis and other challenges that demonstrate the capabilities of modern humanoid machines.
Humanoid Robots Continue to Improve
