Apple Clarifies Siri’s Role in New AI Update

CUPERTINO — Apple has clarified that its upgraded Siri voice assistant will not function as a romantic or emotionally attached chatbot, setting it apart from AI tools that are designed for companionship-style interactions.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s software engineering chief, said Siri has been developed primarily as a productivity assistant to help users complete tasks, access information, and learn about the world.

He emphasized that Siri is not intended to act as an AI partner or emotional companion. “Siri is designed to help you get things done,” he noted, adding that it is not built for romantic or relationship-based interaction.

Focus on Practical Assistance

Apple’s upcoming Siri upgrade is part of its broader artificial intelligence rollout expected in iOS 27, which is currently in development. The company says the new version will be more capable but will remain focused on utility rather than personality-driven engagement.

According to Apple executives, the goal is to create an assistant that prioritizes task completion and useful responses rather than forming emotional bonds with users.

Apple’s AI Approach

Apple also highlighted its approach to artificial intelligence, stating that Siri is being designed differently from other AI chatbots in the market. The company aims to avoid overly personalized or emotionally engaging interactions.

The new Siri is expected to launch alongside future iOS updates later this year, with Apple continuing to refine its capabilities during the beta phase.

As interest in AI companionship tools continues to grow, Apple maintains that Siri will remain a practical digital assistant rather than a conversational partner.
