Faheem shines with a five-for as Gladiators continue winning momentum

Lahore, April 27, 2025: Quetta Gladiators secured a commanding 64-run victory over Peshawar Zalmi in Match 17 of the HBL PSL Season 10 at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday night, thanks to a sensational bowling performance by Faheem Ashraf, who claimed 5 wickets for 33 runs.

The all-rounder made a significant impact by removing key Zalmi batters in just 20 deliveries, earning his second five-wicket haul in T20 cricket and the Player of the Match award.

With this win, the Saud Shakeel-led Quetta Gladiators moved to third place on the points table, registering their third win in five matches, including consecutive victories on their home ground in Lahore.

Bowling Brilliance Secures the Win

Defending a competitive 178-run total, Quetta’s bowling attack delivered a clinical performance, collectively claiming nine wickets for 81 runs in just 12.2 overs.

Faheem set the tone early, dismissing Saim Ayub in the second over, followed by a crucial double strike in the eighth over to remove Mohammad Haris and Abdul Samad, reducing Zalmi to 50-5.

Babar Azam, Peshawar’s captain, was dismissed for just 12 runs after being trapped leg-before by Mohammad Amir. Tom Kohler-Cadmore was bowled by Mohammad Wasim Jnr in the fifth over.

Despite a fighting 39-run knock off 34 balls by Hussain Talat, Zalmi’s batting lineup struggled, with no other batter crossing the 20-run mark. Khurram Shahzad also impressed, returning economical figures of 2 wickets for 9 runs in three overs, while Abrar Ahmed chipped in with one wicket.

Zalmi were bowled out for 114 runs in 15.2 overs, with Faheem sealing the game by dismissing Luke Wood and Sufyan Moqim in the latter part of the innings.

Solid Batting Setup from Quetta

Earlier in the match, Quetta Gladiators posted a total of 178-7 in their 20 overs. All top-five batters made valuable contributions:

  • Saud Shakeel: 32 off 26 balls

  • Kusal Mendis: 32 off 27 balls

  • Mark Chapman: 33 off 26 balls

  • Rilee Rossouw: 27 off 18 balls

Quetta’s innings featured strong partnerships, including a 46-run opening stand between Saud and Finn, and a 45-run partnership between Saud and Rossouw. Chapman and Mendis later stabilized the innings with a key stand in the middle overs.

Zalmi’s Alzarri Joseph was the standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets for 33 runs. Saim Ayub also impressed with figures of 2-24 in his four overs.
