New Zealand secured a convincing 160-run victory over England in the third Test at Trent Bridge on Monday, clinching the three-match series 2-1.
The win marked New Zealand’s fourth Test series triumph in England and their first series victory there after losing the opening match since 1999.
England, chasing a target of 373, were bowled out for 212, as New Zealand’s disciplined bowling attack maintained control throughout the final innings.
Stokes Ends International Career
The match also marked the final international appearance of England captain Ben Stokes, who announced his retirement from international cricket before the last day of the Test.
Stokes, who said he was stepping away after several demanding years in international cricket, contributed 30 runs while opening the batting in England’s second innings.
Following the match, he reflected on his career, saying he was proud of his achievements as both a player and captain despite the disappointing result.
Mitchell Stars for New Zealand
New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell was named Player of the Match after scoring an unbeaten century in the second innings, helping his team set England a challenging target.
Mitchell praised his teammates after the victory, saying the squad had arrived in England with the goal of winning the series and was pleased to achieve that objective.
The visitors also produced an outstanding fielding performance, including two direct-hit run-outs that helped turn the match further in their favor.
Strong Team Performance Secures Series
New Zealand built the foundation for victory with an impressive first-innings total of 438, highlighted by centuries from captain Tom Latham (151) and Devon Conway (157), who shared a 317-run opening partnership.
Despite dealing with injuries during the match, the visitors continued to perform strongly. Zak Foulkes, who entered the game as a concussion substitute, made an important contribution by taking six wickets across the match.
Bowling efforts from Nathan Smith, Mitchell Santner, and Ben Sears also played a key role in restricting England during the final innings.
