Punjab Wastewater Treatment Project Resumes After Brief Suspension

Construction work on the Eastern Wastewater Treatment Plant in Faisalabad has resumed following a short suspension caused by security-related concerns raised by a foreign contractor and consulting partners.

According to officials, the project is being monitored by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Faisalabad, which has instructed relevant departments to ensure timely progress on this major infrastructure development.

Foreign Experts Return to Site

Foreign engineers have reportedly returned to the project site after discussions between relevant authorities and partner organizations. They have reaffirmed their commitment to continue work within the agreed timeline.

The project had been temporarily halted after the Danish contractor raised concerns regarding security arrangements for foreign staff working at the site. The matter led to consultations between local authorities and international stakeholders.

Issue Resolved After Consultations

Officials said the matter was resolved after coordination between security agencies, the Danish Embassy in Islamabad, the Danish International Development Agency, and project consultants. Construction activities were subsequently allowed to resume.

Project Details

Project Director Hafiz Owais Jamal said the Eastern Wastewater Treatment Plant is an important environmental project aimed at improving urban sanitation and reducing pollution in Faisalabad.

The plant is designed to treat up to 33 million gallons per day of municipal and industrial wastewater. Treated water will be reused for agricultural purposes after processing.

Officials added that the project will help reduce the discharge of untreated wastewater into natural water channels, supporting improved environmental conditions in the region.
