Lindsey Vonn Adds Olympic Champion Aksel Lund Svindal to Coaching Team Ahead of Comeback
American skiing legend Lindsey Vonn has officially welcomed former Norwegian Olympic gold medalist Aksel Lund Svindal to her coaching team as she prepares for a high-profile return to competitive skiing.
The 40-year-old Vonn, who retired in 2019 with 82 World Cup victories and three Olympic medals—including one gold—announced last year her intention to return to the slopes with hopes of competing at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Games.
Vonn showed signs of her enduring skill earlier this year by finishing second in the super-G at the World Cup Finals in March.
In a post shared on Instagram on Wednesday, August 7, Vonn expressed her excitement about the new addition:
“Excited to finally announce that Olympic Champion Aksel Lund Svindal will be joining my team as a coach and equipment strategist for the upcoming season.”
Svindal brings an impressive résumé to the role. The Norwegian skier won gold in the super-G at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and in the downhill at Pyeongchang 2018. He also secured five world championship titles during his illustrious career before retiring in 2019.
With Vonn’s experience and Svindal’s expertise, the pairing creates a powerhouse team as she eyes a historic comeback in 2026.
