Lexi Chambers Takes on Remarkable World Record Challenge for Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

In an extraordinary show of determination, five-time world record holder and ChildFund Rugby Ambassador Lexi Chambers has set off on her boldest challenge yet ahead of the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 in England.

On Sunday, 10 August, Lexi began her sixth world record attempt — completing 10 ultramarathons in 10 days using a non-sport wheelchair, covering more than 322 miles from Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium to Sunderland’s Stadium of Light, where the tournament’s opening match will take place.

This inspiring journey, called “Race to Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025”, carries a powerful message of resilience. Lexi lives with fibromyalgia and complex regional pain syndrome, the latter leading to the amputation of her leg. Despite ongoing chronic pain, she continues to push boundaries and motivate others to pursue their goals. Along the way, she will visit grassroots rugby clubs and local communities, highlighting the inclusive spirit of the sport.

A strong advocate for youth empowerment, Lexi’s mission also aims to raise funds and awareness for ChildFund Rugby — World Rugby’s global Social Impact Partner. The programme hopes to reach 500,000 young people by 2030, promoting leadership, gender equality, and life skills through rugby-based activities.

This journey began symbolically in June 2025, when fellow ChildFund Rugby Ambassador Ron Rutland passed the torch to Lexi after his own incredible feat — cycling 22,000km from New Zealand to France to deliver the match whistle for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Speaking about her challenge, Lexi said:

“For a huge women’s rugby fan like me, delivering the opening whistle for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 is the greatest honour. And to do it while setting a new world record — 10 ultramarathons in 10 days — makes it even more special.”

Sarah Massey, Managing Director of Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, praised Lexi’s courage, calling it “a remarkable testament to resilience and the power of sport to change lives.”

Meg Knight, Co-Director of ChildFund Rugby, added: “Lexi’s efforts will create a lasting social impact for girls and women around the world — all powered by rugby.”
