Tottenham Show Full Support for Mathys Tel After Online Abuse Following UEFA Super Cup

Tottenham Hotspur have issued a strong statement of support for forward Mathys Tel after the 20-year-old was subjected to racist abuse on social media. The incident occurred following Spurs’ penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13, 2025, a match in which Tel’s penalty was saved.

In their official statement, the club praised Tel’s decision to step up in the decisive moment, calling it an act of β€œbravery and courage.” Tottenham also made clear that they will work with the relevant authorities and social media platforms to identify those responsible and ensure appropriate action is taken.

β€œTottenham stand with Mathys,” the statement read, reaffirming the club’s ongoing commitment to tackling all forms of discrimination.

The North London side stressed that they are determined to create a safe and respectful environment for all players and fans, both on and off the pitch.

The match itself ended 2-2 in regular time before PSG triumphed 4-3 in the penalty shootout.
