8 Popular Food Chains Sealed in Lahore for Violating Food Safety Standards

Punjab Food Authority Cracks Down on Adulteration, Seals Eight Multinational Brands

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out a large-scale operation on Tuesday, discarding 14,000kg of biscuits from a popular children’s brand and sealing eight multinational food factories over violations of food safety standards.

During the crackdown, PFA teams also imposed fines worth Rs. 7.45 million on 27 food chains and industries. A total of 28 well-known food chains and factories were inspected, with several sealed until corrective actions are taken.

In addition to discarding biscuits, officials destroyed 300kg of raw material, 200 liters of chemicals, and 50kg of loose food colors. The crackdown also extended to beverage, biscuit, cake, chips, snacks, oil, and ghee factories, some of which were sealed for non-compliance.

Strict Monitoring to Continue

PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javed stated that the campaign’s goal is to ensure a comprehensive inspection of the food industry. He confirmed that a detailed report will be presented to the Chief Minister Punjab and the Chief Secretary.

Factories have been given a deadline to improve safety standards. Once this period expires, re-inspections will be carried out, and in case of continued violations, licenses will be cancelled and strict legal action will follow.

The DG further emphasized that all food handlers—whether in industries or roadside eateries—must undergo medical check-ups and training.

Zero Tolerance Policy

Javed reiterated that there will be no compromise on food quality. PFA is ensuring equal enforcement of laws across businesses, and anyone found guilty of producing or selling substandard food products will face FIRs and business closures.
