Anthony Martial Joins Monterrey in Mexico’s Liga MX
Monterrey, Mexico – Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has officially signed with Monterrey, one of Mexico’s top-tier clubs, the team confirmed on Friday.
The 29-year-old striker, who spent nine seasons at Old Trafford, joins Monterrey after a short spell with AEK Athens. Martial has signed a two-year contract with an option for a third season.
A Star Arrival in Monterrey
Martial will play alongside two Spanish internationals and former Real Madrid stars, Sergio Ramos and Sergio Canales, making Monterrey one of the most high-profile squads in Liga MX.
The French forward began his professional career at Lyon, moved to Monaco, and then joined Manchester United for the 2015-16 season in what was then one of the most expensive transfers for a teenager.
Career at Manchester United
During his time with the Red Devils, Martial played 317 matches and scored 90 goals. His honors include:
-
Europa League (2016-17)
-
FA Cup (2015-16, 2023-24)
-
EFL Cup (2016-17, 2022-23)
-
FA Community Shield (2016)
He also earned 31 international caps with France, last appearing for the national side in 2021.
Monterrey’s Ambitions
Monterrey is aiming for its first Liga MX title since the Apertura 2019 tournament. The club recently won the CONCACAF Champions Cup and remains a strong contender both domestically and regionally.
