Pakistan Approves Wi-Fi 7 in 6 GHz Band

Pakistan Approves Wi-Fi 7 in 6 GHz Band

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially approved the use of Wi-Fi 7 and future Wi-Fi generations in the 6 GHz frequency band (5925–6425 MHz). This decision follows the earlier framework set for Wi-Fi 6E and represents a significant step toward improving digital connectivity in the country.

With this approval, Pakistan joins the group of early adopters of Wi-Fi 7 in the Asia-Pacific region. The new technology is expected to provide faster speeds, lower latency, and more reliable performance. These improvements will support advanced applications such as 8K video streaming, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), and industrial automation.

Wi-Fi 7 also helps reduce congestion on older spectrum bands, offering users a better online experience and enabling next-generation digital services. According to PTA, the adoption will lower broadband delivery costs while improving connectivity for households, small businesses, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and smart city initiatives.

The regulator stated that the move reflects its commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, closing the digital divide, and supporting innovation. PTA added that it will continue to develop policies that encourage the adoption of advanced technologies and contribute to long-term digital growth.
