Mohammad Amir Clears the Air on ILT20 Auction Controversy

KARACHI: Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has finally addressed the speculation surrounding his absence from the first-ever ILT20 auction, ending days of debate among cricket fans.

The 33-year-old, known for his match-winning spells in franchise cricket, was widely expected to be picked but surprisingly went unsold. Rumors quickly spread that Amir had been “snubbed” by teams — but the left-arm pacer has now shared his side of the story.

Amir Reveals Official Withdrawal

Taking to social media, Amir posted a screenshot of an email he had sent to ILT20 officials. The email confirmed that he had formally withdrawn his name before the auction.

The message read:

“As you may be aware of the recent developments, please treat this email as a notice of withdrawal by Mohammad Amir from the upcoming ILT20 auction.”

This clarification came after his name still appeared in the auction list at USD 80,000, where he went unsold.

Desert Vipers CEO Responds

Amir’s former franchise, the Desert Vipers, also weighed in. CEO Phil Oliver explained that the team chose not to bid for Amir because they already had strong bowling options, including Naseem Shah.

Despite this, Amir’s record in the ILT20 speaks volumes. Over two seasons with the Vipers, he picked up 26 wickets at an economy of 8.01, proving his consistency as one of the best left-arm seamers in T20 cricket.

Future in ILT20?

With the ILT20 2025 season set to begin on December 2 across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, fans are now left wondering: Will Mohammad Amir make a comeback in future editions, or was this his quiet farewell from the league?
