Weakened Cyclone Shakhti to Bring Isolated Rain to Sindh, Balochistan Coast
Published October 6, 2025

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that cyclonic storm Shakhti has weakened but may still bring isolated rainfall to the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan today.

Originally a deep depression over the Arabian Sea, Shakhti intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the weekend. A PMD update this morning confirmed that the storm has now downgraded to a cyclonic storm and is expected to weaken further into a depression within the next 24 hours.

Sea conditions are expected to remain rough along the Sindh coast, with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h, prompting warnings to fishermen to avoid venturing into deep waters until tomorrow. The north-west and west-central Arabian Sea will also see very rough to high seas over the next 24 hours, though conditions are expected to gradually improve.

Meanwhile, heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have affected electricity supply in Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Shabqadar, and Swabi. Pesco reported faults in 113 feeders, with repair work ongoing and field staff on high alert.

In Balochistan, the Fisheries Department has coordinated with the Pakistan Navy, Levies Force, and local authorities to monitor the situation, keeping all field officers on high alert.
