PMYP–Qalandars Nationwide Cricket Trials Conclude in Skardu, Empowering Youth Across Pakistan

  October 7, 2025

Skardu: The Prime Minister Youth Program (PMYP) cricket trials, organized in collaboration with Lahore Qalandars and the Higher Education Commission (HEC), have officially concluded in Skardu, marking the grand finale of a historic nationwide initiative to discover and empower young cricketing talent across Pakistan.

The program — launched to identify emerging players from Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan — has successfully reached thousands of aspiring cricketers from every corner of the country. Over several weeks, the trials toured both major cities and remote districts, ensuring equal opportunities for youth from all backgrounds.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Qalandars’ team held trials in Kohat, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, and Swat, drawing huge participation and excitement. The campaign then continued to Muzaffarabad, Gilgit, and finally Skardu, where it received an overwhelming response from local youth.

Throughout the journey, the trials highlighted the passion, discipline, and raw talent of Pakistan’s youth. Under the guidance of Lahore Qalandars’ professional coaching staff, participants received expert mentorship designed to polish their skills and prepare them for higher levels of competition.

“This has been a monumental journey — not only in discovering hidden talent but in giving our youth belief, direction, and a clear pathway forward,” said Atif Naeem Rana, CEO and Owner of Lahore Qalandars.

He extended gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PMYP Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, and the HEC for their continuous support.

“Their trust turned this vision into a nationwide movement — one that allows promising youth to grow, compete, and one day represent Pakistan globally,” he added.

Atif Rana emphasized that the trials reached every province, every valley, and every community, showcasing the unity of Pakistan through sport.

“Talent knows no borders. Today, many young people are stepping forward with renewed hope,” he said.

The program’s impact resonated deeply among participants.

“These trials gave me a chance to chase my dream and prove myself on a national platform,” said one young cricketer from Skardu. “I want to thank the Prime Minister, PMYP Chairman, and Lahore Qalandars for believing in us.”

Another participant added,

“We feel empowered and seen. This initiative gives the next generation the courage to dream bigger.”

More than a sports program, the PMYP–Qalandars initiative represents nation-building through cricket. By offering structured development pathways, professional coaching, and national exposure, it lays the foundation for Pakistan’s cricketing future.

With many young players now shortlisted for advanced training camps and potential national selection, the program’s success is set to have a long-lasting impact. Lahore Qalandars and PMYP have also announced plans for regional cricket academies, scholarships, and infrastructure development projects to sustain momentum and nurture long-term talent.

The ultimate goal: to produce a new generation of world-class Pakistani cricketers — confident, skilled, and ready to make their mark on the global stage.
