Lahore’s Air Quality Remains Unhealthy Amid Calm Weather Conditions
 October 9, 2025 | 4:54 PM

LAHORE: The air quality in Lahore continues to remain a major concern, as the Air Quality Index (AQI) is projected to stay in the “unhealthy” range of 151 to 200 throughout Thursday, according to the Punjab Smog and Climate Change Monitoring System.

Officials have warned residents—especially children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues—to limit outdoor activities and wear protective masks when stepping outside.

Fresh weather data released on Thursday indicates a drop in both temperature and wind speed, with no chances of rainfall in the city today — a combination that allows smog and pollutants to linger in the atmosphere.

Wind speeds are expected to fluctuate between 1 and 9 kilometres per hour, while the maximum temperature may reach around 30°C. The stagnant air conditions are preventing the dispersion of pollutants, leading to a thick layer of smog over several parts of the city.

Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, reduce vehicle emissions, and refrain from burning waste, which significantly contributes to deteriorating air quality.

Experts say that Lahore’s air pollution problem, which worsens every winter, requires long-term policy action and public cooperation to reduce emissions from vehicles, industries, and crop burning.
