Women’s World Cup 2025: New Zealand Crush Bangladesh to Register First Win

 October 10, 2025

Guwahati: New Zealand secured their first victory in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 with a dominant 100-run win over Bangladesh at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Opting to bat first, skipper Sophie Devine and Brooke Halliday led the charge with brilliant half-centuries, helping the White Ferns post a strong total of 227/9 in 50 overs.

New Zealand had a shaky start after losing early wickets — including Suzie Bates’ run-out — but a solid 112-run partnership between Devine (63 off 85) and Halliday (69 off 104) turned the innings around. Rabeya Khan impressed for Bangladesh, taking 3 wickets for 30 runs in her 10-over spell.

Chasing 228, Bangladesh’s batting lineup crumbled for just 127 runs in 39.5 overs. Despite a fighting 34 from Fahima Khatun, the team struggled against New Zealand’s disciplined bowling attack. Lea Tahuhu and Jess Kerr took three wickets each, while Rosemary Mair grabbed two.

With this win, New Zealand moved to fifth place in the tournament standings, overtaking Bangladesh on a better net run rate. Both teams now have two points from three matches.

Key Performers:

  • Brooke Halliday: 69 (104)

  • Sophie Devine: 63 (85)

  • Lea Tahuhu: 3/25

  • Rabeya Khan: 3/30
