Karachi BRT Red Line Project Faces Fresh Delays Amid Slow Progress

Apr 13, 2026

Construction work on the Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project has slowed down again, with several sections showing minimal or no visible activity. The situation has raised concerns regarding project management and overall progress.

Project Divisions and Key Sections

The BRT Red Line is divided into two major segments:

  • Airport Signal to Mosamiyat
  • Mosamiyat to Numaish

Among these, the Mosamiyat to Numaish section, which covers a larger portion of the route, has faced repeated delays and implementation challenges.

Previous Interruptions and Ongoing Issues

Work on this segment had previously been suspended due to payment-related disputes between contractors and authorities. The matter had gone to court before construction was eventually resumed.

However, despite earlier assurances, progress on the project has once again slowed significantly.

Current Situation on Ground

Recent observations indicate limited construction activity along multiple parts of the route. In several locations, machinery is present but not actively in use, while only a small number of workers can be seen on-site.

Additionally, work between Hasan Square and Nipa remains halted due to the installation of the K-IV water pipeline, further contributing to delays.

Public Impact and Concerns

The repeated delays have raised concerns about administrative coordination and project oversight. Meanwhile, residents continue to face ongoing traffic congestion, route diversions, and uncertainty regarding project completion timelines.
