South Air Plans New Domestic Flights to Improve Connectivity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Private airline South Air has announced plans to expand its domestic network by launching new flight services connecting remote areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) with major cities across Pakistan.

The proposed expansion includes regular flights to Dera Ismail Khan and Chitral, two important regions that could benefit from improved air travel options. The initiative aims to enhance accessibility for residents, businesses, and travelers while supporting regional development.

South Air Chairman Kanwar Muhammad Tariq shared the airline’s plans during a meeting with KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi. He said the company intends to operate daily flights to Dera Ismail Khan and establish regular air links with Chitral as part of its growing domestic network.

In addition to these routes, South Air is also planning to connect Peshawar with major cities including Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta. The airline stated that operational, technical, and administrative preparations for expanded domestic operations have largely been completed.

The announcement comes shortly after South Air successfully conducted a trial flight between Karachi and Gwadar, marking an important step in its domestic expansion strategy.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi welcomed the initiative and expressed support for efforts aimed at improving air connectivity across the province. He noted that better transportation links can contribute to tourism growth, facilitate business activities, and improve access to remote areas.

The governor also highlighted ongoing development work at Dera Ismail Khan International Airport. According to him, runway rehabilitation has made significant progress, while additional infrastructure upgrades are expected to be completed in the near future.

Officials have also discussed plans for a proposed Green Field International Airport in the region. The project is expected to cover more than 1,700 acres and could serve over one million passengers annually once completed.

The planned expansion reflects growing interest in strengthening domestic aviation services and improving connectivity between Pakistan’s major urban centers and underserved regions.
