Balochistan Approves Education Reforms Including Changes to Primary School Policy

The Balochistan government has approved a set of education reforms aimed at improving access to schooling, increasing literacy rates, and upgrading learning facilities across the province.

The decisions were taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti.

Key Changes for Primary Education

Under the new reforms, the government has decided to remove the mandatory requirement for school uniforms at the primary level. Officials say the move is intended to make basic education more accessible for children from different socioeconomic backgrounds.

A proposal to allow boys and girls to study in the same primary schools under a “gender-inclusive” approach will also be presented for cabinet approval.

School Infrastructure and Staffing Improvements

To address infrastructure gaps, the government plans to introduce a double-shift system in 900 schools across Balochistan.

Authorities also announced plans to construct additional classrooms in around 3,000 single-room schools to improve learning conditions.

In addition, the salaries of teachers under the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) program will be increased after remaining unchanged for several years.

Focus on Learning Environment

The government has also decided to phase out floor seating in schools by providing desks to all students in public institutions. Officials emphasized the importance of improving classroom conditions to support better learning outcomes.

Education authorities have been directed to ensure timely implementation of these measures, with monitoring mechanisms to track progress.

Monitoring and Future Plans

The chief minister said regular inspections will be carried out to review the condition of schools, particularly in remote areas, as part of ongoing reforms in the education sector.

The provincial government says the reforms are part of a broader effort to improve education, healthcare, and governance across Balochistan.
