Heatwave Expected Across Pakistan from June 7 to 12: PMD

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert for several parts of the country from June 7 to June 12, warning of significantly rising temperatures and dry weather conditions.

According to the advisory, many regions will experience temperatures 4 to 6°C above normal, increasing the risk of heat-related health issues.

KP and Northern Areas

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts including Peshawar, Mardan, Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan are expected to record temperatures between 41°C and 46°C from June 8 to 11.

Northern districts such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Gilgit-Baltistan may see temperatures ranging between 37°C and 40°C during the same period.

Islamabad and Surrounding Regions

Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby areas including Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, and parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir are expected to experience temperatures between 41°C and 44°C from June 8 to 10.

Punjab

Most districts of Punjab, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and others, are likely to face intense heat with temperatures ranging from 44°C to 48°C between June 8 and 11.

Sindh and Balochistan

In Sindh, including Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, and surrounding districts, temperatures may rise to 48°C to 51°C from June 7 to 12.

Karachi is expected to record temperatures between 40°C and 43°C during this period.

Hot and dry conditions are also expected in parts of Balochistan, including Turbat and Panjgur.

Weather Advisory

The PMD has also warned of possible dust storms in southern Punjab and Sindh due to extreme heat conditions.

The public, especially children, women, and elderly individuals, has been advised to avoid direct sunlight between 10am and 4pm and to stay hydrated.

Farmers have been advised to manage agricultural activities according to weather conditions and ensure the safety of livestock.

Electricity demand is also expected to increase during the heatwave period.

Seasonal Outlook

The PMD earlier indicated that Pakistan may receive below-normal rainfall during the June to August period, along with above-normal temperatures across most regions.

The report also noted that climate patterns such as ENSO (El Niño) and IOD may contribute to reduced rainfall and increased heat intensity in the coming months.
