Iran Arrives in Mexico Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup
Iran’s national football team has departed from Antalya, Türkiye, and arrived in Mexico ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which begins on June 11 and is being co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
According to Iranian media reports, the squad left Antalya on Saturday evening following a three-week training camp in Türkiye. The team is expected to be based in Tijuana, Mexico, throughout the tournament.
During their stay in Türkiye, players and staff completed travel arrangements and visa procedures for the World Cup. Officials confirmed that players and technical staff received the necessary documentation to participate in the competition.
Visa Concerns Ahead of Tournament
In the days leading up to the team’s departure, discussions emerged regarding visa approvals for some members of Iran’s broader support and administrative staff.
Iranian football authorities expressed concerns over the status of several non-playing personnel, while officials from the United States stated that visas required for athletes and essential support staff had been issued.
The matter is expected to be discussed through the appropriate sporting and administrative channels.
Preparation for the World Cup
Iran enters the tournament after completing a successful training camp and a series of warm-up matches in Türkiye.
Team Melli defeated Gambia 3-1 on May 29 and followed up with a 2-0 victory over Mali on June 5, providing positive momentum ahead of the competition.
Group Stage Schedule
Iran has been placed in Group G and will begin its World Cup campaign against New Zealand on June 15 in Los Angeles.
The team will then face Belgium on June 21, also in Los Angeles, before concluding the group stage against Egypt in Seattle on June 26.
With preparations complete, Iran now turns its focus to competing on football’s biggest stage as it seeks to advance beyond the group phase and make a strong impression at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
