Lahore Traffic Police Launch Crackdown on Underage and Unlicensed Drivers

The City Traffic Police (CTP) Lahore has launched a strict enforcement campaign against underage driving, unlicensed motorists, and unsafe motorcycle practices across the city.

According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, the operation will be implemented with zero tolerance, especially during holidays when traffic violations typically increase.

Action Against Underage Driving

Authorities said individuals under the age of 18 found driving cars or riding motorcycles will face penalties, including challans, vehicle impoundment, and written undertakings from parents to prevent repeat violations.

Officials emphasized that underage driving poses serious risks to both riders and other road users.

Fines for Unlicensed Drivers

The traffic police have also announced fines for drivers without valid licenses:

  • Rs. 5,000 for driving a car without a license
  • Rs. 2,000 for riding a motorcycle without a license

Learner permit holders will also be required to drive under proper supervision.

Crackdown on Unsafe Motorcycle Practices

The campaign includes strict action against triple riding on motorcycles, which officials described as a major road safety hazard.

Special checkpoints have been set up near licensing centers to assist citizens in obtaining driving licenses and to improve compliance with traffic laws.

Inspection of Entry Points in Lahore

During a separate visit, CTO Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi inspected entry and exit points across Lahore to review enforcement measures.

At the Gajjumata checkpoint, he assessed vehicle inspection procedures and directed officials to strengthen monitoring of traffic violations.

Strict Rules for Commercial Vehicles

Traffic authorities stated that commercial vehicles without valid licenses, fitness certificates, or proper lighting systems are being restricted from entering the city.

Officials further warned that vehicles using high-beam lights or operating with faulty or missing rear lights will face strict action.
