WASA issues warning notices over unpaid water bills in Lahore
Water and Sanitation Agency has reportedly begun attaching legal warning notices to utility bills as part of its drive to recover outstanding dues from consumers across the city.
According to officials, First Information Report (FIR) warning notices are being included with bills in some cases, even for consumers who have missed a single monthly payment. The move has sparked concern and criticism from residents, many of whom say the notices feel excessive for minor delays in payment.
Citizens have expressed frustration over receiving strong legal warnings despite having only one unpaid bill, raising questions about the fairness and proportionality of the recovery campaign.
The development comes as the agency continues a stricter enforcement policy on utility-related issues, including action against theft of manhole covers and other infrastructure damage.
In recent public advisories, WASA has urged citizens to report missing or damaged manhole covers immediately to prevent accidents. Complaint helplines have also been shared for water supply and sewerage issues.
Officials say the agency’s measures aim to improve revenue recovery and strengthen public safety systems, although the approach has triggered debate over enforcement methods and consumer rights.
