Toronto Marlies Win Calder Cup After 4-3 Victory Over Chicago Wolves
The Toronto Marlies have won the American Hockey League (AHL) Calder Cup, defeating the Chicago Wolves 4-3 in Game 5 of the final series on Friday night.
Vinni Lettieri scored a key second-period power-play goal to help Toronto secure the championship in a closely contested match. The Marlies, the top affiliate of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs, delivered a strong performance in the decisive game.
Toronto built momentum in the second period with additional goals from Benoit-Olivier Groulx and Jacob Quillan. Landon Sim had earlier reduced the deficit for Chicago with a late first-period goal.
Goaltender Artur Akhtyamov played a crucial role in the win, making 27 saves to help Toronto hold off a late push from the opposition.
For Chicago, Felix Unger Sorum delivered a standout performance with two goals and an assist, while Cayden Primeau made 19 saves in goal. Despite their efforts, the Wolves fell short in the final game of the series.
The victory marks another Calder Cup title for the Marlies, who last won the championship in 2018, adding another major achievement to the franchise’s history.
