Schwarber and Harper Power Phillies Past Mets to Win Series
The Philadelphia Phillies secured a 6-2 victory over the New York Mets on Sunday, clinching the weekend series behind another strong offensive performance from Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper.
Both Schwarber and Harper continued their recent hot streak, hitting home runs in consecutive games as Philadelphia controlled the matchup from the early innings.
Schwarber delivered a key three-run home run in the second inning, marking his league-leading 29th homer of the season and giving the Phillies a strong advantage.
Harper also contributed with a solo home run, along with a double and multiple hits, extending his run of extra-base hits across the series.
Philadelphia built an early lead in the first inning, taking advantage of disciplined plate appearances and defensive errors by the Mets to score runs without a traditional hit sequence.
Starting pitcher Zack Wheeler provided a solid outing for the Phillies, allowing two runs while striking out seven batters over 5 2/3 innings to earn the win.
The Mets managed to score through a solo home run but struggled to consistently challenge Philadelphia’s pitching and defense throughout the game.
With the win, the Phillies take the series and continue to build momentum, while the Mets look to regroup after dropping several of their recent games.
Both teams now move on to their next scheduled series as the Major League Baseball season continues.
