Mackie Samoskevich Joins Seattle Kraken in Trade, Aiming to Boost Offense
SEATTLE — Mackie Samoskevich is set to begin a new chapter in his NHL career after being traded from the Florida Panthers to the Seattle Kraken in a move aimed at strengthening Seattle’s offense.
The Kraken acquired the 23-year-old forward in exchange for the No. 25 overall pick in this year’s draft and a future second-round selection. The Panthers later moved the acquired pick in a separate transaction.
Samoskevich, known for his speed and offensive skill, is expected to add depth to a Kraken team looking to improve its scoring output ahead of the new season.
Alongside the trade, Seattle also made roster moves by re-signing forward Bobby McMann to a long-term contract.
The young winger acknowledged the transition to a new city and said having family nearby will help him adjust. His twin sister, Maddy Samoskevich, plays professional hockey in Vancouver, making the move to Seattle more comfortable.
“She’s only a few hours away, so it came up right away,” Samoskevich said. “It will be great to see her more often.”
Samoskevich is currently a restricted free agent, and contract negotiations will be handled by his representatives. He said his focus remains on preparing for the upcoming season.
“I just need to focus on my offseason training and make sure I’m ready for camp,” he added.
The Kraken will be counting on his development as they look to become more competitive in the upcoming NHL campaign.
