Oil Tankers Association Gives Government 72-Hour Deadline Over Key Demands
The All Pakistan Tankers Association and transport contractors have given the government a 72-hour deadline to address their concerns, warning that they may begin a nationwide wheel-jam strike if no agreement is reached.
The announcement was made during a joint press conference in Karachi, where association representatives called for immediate discussions with the relevant authorities.
Key Demands
The association has urged the government to consider several issues affecting the petroleum transport sector, including:
- Review of policies related to the White Oil Pipeline
- Revision of oil tanker freight rates
- Measures to address rising transportation costs
Concerns Over Rising Costs
Association representative Abidullah Afridi said freight rates for oil tankers have remained unchanged for the past three years, while motorway toll charges have increased significantly during the same period.
He urged the government to revise transportation rates to reflect higher operating expenses faced by tanker operators.
Call for Dialogue
Association leaders said they hope their concerns will be resolved through discussions before the deadline expires.
They also stated that if no progress is made within 72 hours, they may move forward with a nationwide wheel-jam strike, which could affect petroleum transportation across the country.
Government Response Awaited
Officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) have yet to issue a detailed response to the latest demands.
