PMD Forecasts Fresh Monsoon Spell Across Pakistan From July 29 to August 5
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of monsoon rains across many parts of the country from July 29 to August 5, with the possibility of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, urban flooding, and flash floods in some areas.
According to the weather advisory, moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen monsoon activity, while a westerly weather system is likely to intensify from August 1, bringing more widespread rainfall to northern and central Pakistan.
Rain Expected in Punjab
Many districts of Punjab are likely to receive rain and thunderstorms during the forecast period.

- Murree and Galliyat
- Attock
- Chakwal
- Jhelum
- Gujrat
- Gujranwala
- Sialkot
- Lahore
- Sheikhupura
- Kasur
- Faisalabad
- Sargodha

- Pakpattan
- Multan
- Bahawalpur
- Rahim Yar Khan
- Dera Ghazi Khan
Some locations may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, especially between July 29 and August 4.
Sindh Likely to Receive Rain From July 31
The PMD has forecast rain and thunderstorms in several parts of Sindh between July 31 and August 2.
Expected areas include:
- Karachi
- Hyderabad
- Mirpurkhas
- Badin
- Tharparkar
- Umerkot
- Sanghar
- Jamshoro
- Sukkur
- Larkana
- Khairpur
- Jacobabad
- Shikarpur
- Thatta
Isolated areas may receive moderate to heavy rainfall.
Rain Forecast for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected across many districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 29 to August 5.
The forecast includes:
- Peshawar
- Swat
- Chitral
- Dir
- Malakand
- Abbottabad
- Mansehra
- Haripur
- Kohistan
- Mardan
- Swabi
- Bannu
- Dera Ismail Khan
- Kurram
- Khyber
Heavy rainfall may occur in some mountainous areas.
Balochistan, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan
Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in parts of Balochistan from July 31 to August 3, including Zhob, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Gwadar, Turbat and surrounding districts.
Meanwhile, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to receive intermittent rain, with some areas expected to experience heavy downpours through the first week of August.
PMD Warns of Urban Flooding and Flash Floods
The PMD has warned that heavy rainfall could lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas of several major cities, including:
- Islamabad
- Rawalpindi
- Lahore
- Gujranwala
- Gujrat
- Faisalabad
- Multan
- Peshawar
- Nowshera
In Sindh, cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar, Khairpur, Thatta, and Umerkot may also experience localized urban flooding.
The department also cautioned that flash floods may develop in local streams and hill torrents across northern Pakistan, northeastern Punjab, parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeastern Balochistan.
Landslide Risk in Mountainous Areas
Authorities have warned of possible landslides in vulnerable mountainous regions, including:
- Murree
- Galliyat
- Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
- Gilgit-Baltistan
- Azad Jammu and Kashmir
Travelers visiting these areas are advised to remain updated on weather conditions and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
Public Advisory
The PMD has advised citizens to remain cautious during the upcoming weather spell, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding. Farmers are encouraged to plan agricultural activities according to the weather forecast, while travelers should check road and weather conditions before starting their journeys.
Officials also warned that strong winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall could damage weak structures, electricity poles, billboards, and solar panel installations in some areas.
