Powerful Tornado Hits Wisconsin, Thousands Left Without Power
A strong tornado swept through parts of northeastern Wisconsin on Monday, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a high-level severe weather warning as officials monitored the dangerous storm system.
The tornado affected areas around Appleton and Menasha before moving toward Lake Winnebago, where it weakened over the water. According to the NWS, the tornado remained active for around 20 minutes.
Thousands Affected by Power Outages
The severe weather caused widespread power disruptions across the region.
According to outage tracking data, more than:
- 20,000 customers in Outagamie County lost electricity
- 12,000 customers in Winnebago County were also affected
Authorities warned that additional communities could experience power outages as crews worked to assess and repair storm damage.
Severe Weather Risk Continues
Weather officials said the storm system could move further south across eastern Wisconsin, with the possibility of more severe weather.
Areas around the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley remained under a risk of severe thunderstorms, with forecasts warning of:
- Large hail
- Strong winds
- Possible additional tornadoes
A separate tornado warning was also issued for parts of Fond du Lac and Dodge counties, where hail measuring around two inches was reported.
Officials Urge Residents to Stay Alert
Emergency authorities advised residents to monitor weather updates, follow safety instructions, and take precautions as severe storms continued to affect parts of the Midwest.
