Sindh Approves Rs9.5 Billion Special Security Unit Headquarters and Academy
KARACHI: The Sindh government has approved a major police infrastructure project worth Rs9.497 billion to establish a modern Special Security Unit (SSU) headquarters and training academy at Chowkandi.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah approved the project during a meeting focused on the proposed police security complex. He directed the authorities to begin work on the first phase of the SSU Academy during the current financial year.
Training Academy to Cover Nearly 30 Acres
According to officials, the academy will be developed on approximately 29.43 acres, with Rs4.483 billion allocated for its first phase.
The facility will be designed to train more than 3,000 male and 300 female personnel. Planned facilities include firing ranges, a tactical training complex, simulation rooms, K-9 training facilities and a SWAT obstacle course.
The project will also include academic and administrative buildings along with residential facilities for personnel.
Modern Facilities Planned
The proposed academy will feature auditoriums, research and development facilities, libraries, computer laboratories, a swimming pool, gymnasium, sports complex and a medical centre.
Security infrastructure will include a CCTV command centre, watchtowers and blast-resistant boundary walls. Dining facilities with a capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 people at a time are also part of the plan.
Government Orders Early Assessment
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said modern and professionally trained police forces equipped with technology are important for addressing future security requirements and protecting citizens.
He described the project as a long-term investment in Sindh’s security infrastructure and instructed the Finance and Planning departments to complete the required technical and financial assessment as soon as possible.
The government is expected to proceed with the first phase after completion of the necessary assessments and related formalities.
