Nishat Group Partners with China’s Chery to Assemble EVs in Pakistan

Nishat Group Teams Up with Chery to Launch $100 Million EV Venture in Pakistan

LAHORE: In a major boost to Pakistan’s electric vehicle (EV) industry, Nishat Group is launching a $100 million EV manufacturing project in collaboration with China’s Chery Automobile Co., according to Bloomberg.

The ambitious initiative is being spearheaded by NexGen Auto Pvt., a subsidiary of Nishat Group. The company plans to unveil five new EV models under Chery’s Omoda and Jaecoo brands at a launch event this Friday. Local vehicle assembly is set to begin in October 2025, confirmed CFO Muhammad Aqib Zulfiqar.


🔍 Strategic Partnership with Chinese EV Leader

Nishat executives conducted a comprehensive visit to China, reviewing multiple automakers before partnering with Chery. According to Zulfiqar, Chinese automakers lead the world in EV innovation and cost-effective solutions, making them ideal partners for Pakistan’s growing EV market.


🌱 Pakistan’s Growing EV Momentum

The EV sector in Pakistan is witnessing rapid growth, with several Chinese brands entering the market in the past year. Global EV giant BYD also plans to commence local production in 2025, signaling strong investor confidence in Pakistan’s auto industry.


⚡ Government Support Needed for EV Ecosystem

Zulfiqar called on the Pakistani government to accelerate EV policy implementation, particularly around licensing and development of charging infrastructure. Efficient and accessible charging stations are essential to support widespread EV adoption.


🎯 Vision 2030: 30% EV Adoption Target

Pakistan’s national goal is to ensure that 30% of all vehicle sales, imports, and local production are electric by 2030. Projects like this one by Nishat Group and Chery will play a vital role in achieving that target and transforming Pakistan’s transportation landscape.
