British-Pakistani Aamer Sarfraz Appointed Chancellor of University of East London
LONDON – In a moment of pride for the global Pakistani community, Aamer Sarfraz, a British-Pakistani businessman and politician, has been appointed as the Chancellor of the University of East London (UEL).
Born in Gujrat, Pakistan, Sarfraz has earned widespread recognition for his contributions across business, public service, and philanthropy. He joined the UK House of Lords in 2019, becoming one of its youngest members, and previously served as a special envoy during the tenure of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Ceremonial Role at a Leading UK Institution
As Chancellor, Lord Sarfraz will serve as the ceremonial head and public representative of the university. The Vice-Chancellor of UEL praised the appointment, calling it a “proud moment” and a step that aligns with the university’s mission to foster leadership, diversity, and innovation.

Sarfraz brings with him a stellar academic and professional background. He currently serves on the UK’s Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy and is an alumnus of Boston University, the London School of Economics (LSE), and the Royal College of Defence Studies.
