Punjab Public Transport Fares to be Reduced Massively

Punjab CM Orders Immediate Reduction in Transport Fares After Diesel Price Cut

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the authorities to immediately reduce transport fares in line with the recent decrease in diesel prices, terming it a basic right of the people.

On Friday, the federal government reduced the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs. 12.84 per litre, bringing it down to Rs. 272.99. The reduction is expected to benefit the transport sector, including buses, trucks, trains, and agricultural machinery.

Maryam Nawaz stressed that any delay by transporters in revising fares would not be acceptable. She instructed that updated fare lists be displayed at all transport terminals to ensure transparency and public awareness.

The chief minister further directed district administrations and the provincial transport department to strictly enforce the revised fares, warning of action against those who fail to comply.

Alongside the cut in diesel prices, the federal government also reduced the price of kerosene oil by Rs. 7.19 (now Rs. 178.27 per litre) and light diesel oil by Rs. 8.20 (now Rs. 162.37 per litre). The price of petrol remains unchanged at Rs. 264.61 per litre.
