Justin Thomas and U.S. Ryder Cup Team Tune Up at Silverado Before Big Showdown
Napa Valley, CA – Justin Thomas is back in Northern California’s wine country for a final tune-up ahead of the 2025 Ryder Cup, just as he did two years ago. This time, however, he’s not alone.
Determined not to repeat past mistakes, 10 of the 12 U.S. team members are competing in the Procore Championship at Silverado Resort to stay sharp before the Ryder Cup matches in two weeks at Bethpage Black.
“The rust some guys had in Rome was a learning experience,” Thomas said Tuesday after nine holes of practice alongside three teammates.
Two years ago, Thomas and Max Homa played the Napa tournament—the only competition in the four weeks between the Tour Championship and the Ryder Cup in Rome. Europe dominated from the start at Marco Simone, cruising to another win.
This time, team leaders Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele pushed for nearly all members to compete in Napa. U.S. captain Keegan Bradley also organized a full week of practice, a team dinner on Tuesday night, and structured competitive play to keep players sharp and in sync.
Scheffele was the only PGA Tour member who did not attend, staying home in Florida with his newborn son, according to a text he sent to the Associated Press.
With the Ryder Cup fast approaching, the U.S. squad looks to fine-tune their game and avoid the pitfalls of past campaigns, aiming for a strong performance on one of golf’s biggest stages.
