PM Shehbaz Leaves for Malaysia to Strengthen Economic and Trade Ties

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed for Malaysia on Sunday for a three-day official visit aimed at boosting trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Before his departure, the prime minister shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he looked forward to “a comprehensive exchange of views” with his Malaysian counterpart, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, focusing on the shared goal of enhancing bilateral engagement.
“I will be undertaking an official visit to Malaysia from October 5–7 on the invitation of my dear brother Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Greatly looking forward to a comprehensive exchange of views on our common desire to enhance trade and economic engagement as well as cooperation in various fields,” PM Shehbaz said.
High-Level Delegation Accompanies the PM
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Shehbaz left from Lahore for Kuala Lumpur, accompanied by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, several federal ministers, and senior government officials.
The Foreign Office (FO) said the visit underscores the government’s commitment to deepening Pakistan-Malaysia relations through expanded cooperation in multiple areas.
Focus Areas: Trade, IT, and Investment
Talks between the two leaders are expected to center on trade, information technology, telecommunications, investment, education, infrastructure, and energy.
The leaders will also explore opportunities in the Halal industry, digital economy, and people-to-people exchanges to strengthen cultural and economic ties.
“The leaders are expected to witness the signing of agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in several existing and new sectors,” the FO statement said.
Strengthening Long-Standing Partnership
The Foreign Office described the visit as a reflection of the strong and enduring strategic partnership between Pakistan and Malaysia — a relationship built on mutual respect, shared interests, and close cooperation across diverse fields.
Officials noted that the discussions would also include global and regional issues, reinforcing the countries’ shared vision for peace, stability, and economic growth in Asia.
