Amazon Set to Bring Project Kuiper Satellite Internet to Pakistan by 2026
October 10, 2025
ISLAMABAD: In a significant step toward expanding global broadband access, Amazon’s satellite internet project — Project Kuiper — has expressed strong interest in launching services in Pakistan by late 2026.
The announcement came after a meeting between Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja and an Amazon delegation led by Mostafa Mousa, Project Kuiper’s lead for Licensing and Regulatory Affairs in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The team also included Jeff Kietzemen and Hisham Alshaer.
🚀 Expanding Digital Access Across Pakistan
During the meeting, Amazon shared plans to deploy ground infrastructure, including gateways and points of presence (PoPs), to ensure seamless connectivity for users across the country.
Project Kuiper — Amazon’s ambitious Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network — aims to deploy 3,236 satellites to deliver high-speed internet up to 400 Mbps using low-cost user terminals.
Minister Shaza Fatima welcomed the initiative, calling it a “major step toward building a truly digital Pakistan.”
“This initiative is not just about faster internet — it’s about creating opportunity,” she said. “Project Kuiper will help bridge the digital divide, connecting remote communities and empowering citizens to learn, work, and grow.”
🌐 Boosting Pakistan’s Digital Future
The Ministry of IT and Telecom emphasized that partnerships like these highlight the growing trust of global technology giants in Pakistan’s fast-evolving digital landscape. Officials believe that the entry of Project Kuiper will accelerate innovation, boost e-commerce, and strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global digital economy.
The development aligns with the government’s “Digital Nation Pakistan” vision, which focuses on expanding affordable internet access, supporting tech startups, and improving digital literacy nationwide.
🛰️ Part of a Global Satellite Race
Project Kuiper joins a growing list of international satellite internet providers exploring operations in Pakistan. These include:
-
SpaceX’s Starlink, which has completed initial technical submissions.
-
OneWeb, part of the French Eutelsat Group, currently in discussions for gateway testing and commercial collaboration.
-
China’s SSST, which has initiated early-stage regulatory processes.
With Amazon’s inclusion, Project Kuiper becomes the fourth major global LEO operator to formally engage with Pakistan.
⚖️ Regulatory Framework and Next Steps
Pakistan’s Satellite Services Regulatory Policy (PASRP) outlines the procedures for foreign satellite operators seeking landing rights, spectrum access, and gateway licenses. The process involves multiple regulatory bodies, including:
-
SUPARCO (Pakistan’s Space Agency)
-
Frequency Allocation Board (FAB)
-
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA)
-
Ministry of Interior
Once approved, Amazon’s entry could dramatically improve broadband coverage, particularly in rural and underserved regions, bringing high-speed internet to areas where traditional networks remain limited.
