Wolverhampton Wanderers Relegated After Eight Seasons in Premier League
Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially been relegated from the Premier League after a difficult 2025–26 season, bringing an end to their eight-year run in England’s top flight.
The club’s relegation was confirmed following West Ham United’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace, which left Wolves unable to escape the bottom of the table. The team managed just 17 points from 33 matches.
Challenging Season and Managerial Changes
Wolves faced consistency issues throughout the campaign. The season began under head coach Vítor Pereira, who was dismissed in November after a poor run of results. He was replaced by Rob Edwards, but the change did not deliver sustained improvement.
The club struggled early on, failing to register their first league win until January. Although they secured notable victories against Aston Villa and Liverpool FC later in the season, these performances were not enough to reverse their overall decline.
Return to the Championship
Relegation means Wolves will now compete in the EFL Championship for the first time since the 2017–18 season. The drop marks a significant setback for the West Midlands club.
Club executive Nathan Shi acknowledged the disappointment, stating that supporters “deserve better” and confirming that plans are already underway to rebuild the squad.
Looking Ahead
Wolverhampton Wanderers now face an important rebuilding phase. With the summer transfer window approaching, the club is expected to focus on strengthening the squad and preparing for a push to return to the Premier League.
