FIFA Updates Stadium Rules for 2026 World Cup Venues
FIFA has announced an update to its stadium regulations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, confirming that spectators will not be allowed to bring reusable water bottles into tournament venues.
The revised Stadium Code of Conduct came into effect this week and applies to all World Cup stadiums across the host nations. Under the updated guidelines, reusable bottles, along with certain other containers such as cans and jars, will not be permitted inside venues.
According to FIFA, the decision has been made to enhance safety and create a secure environment for players, officials, staff, volunteers, and fans attending matches.
The organization stated that similar restrictions are already in place at several stadiums and that a consistent policy will now be implemented across all World Cup venues.
The update has prompted discussion among supporters regarding access to drinking water, particularly at locations where temperatures are expected to be relatively high during the tournament.
FIFA said host cities and local authorities are working together to provide various heat-management and hydration measures around stadiums. These may include hydration stations, cooling areas, misting stations, fans, and other support facilities to improve the fan experience.
The governing body also noted that water will remain available inside stadiums and that pricing policies will align with those used during other major events at the respective venues.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19, the tournament will be the largest in FIFA World Cup history, featuring 48 national teams and 104 matches.
The expanded format will include additional fixtures and a new knockout-round structure, bringing more teams and matches to fans around the world.
