Jennifer Kupcho Takes Early Lead at U.S. Women’s Open After Strong Opening Round

Jennifer Kupcho opened the 81st U.S. Women’s Open with an impressive 5-under 66 at Riviera, taking a one-shot lead over Sei Young Kim after the first round.

Kupcho, a 29-year-old LPGA Tour winner, delivered a consistent performance highlighted by seven birdies across a demanding course setup. Her strong start included a run of consecutive birdies that helped her build early momentum in the round.

Although she has previously faced challenges at the U.S. Women’s Open, Kupcho showed confidence and control throughout her opening round, making effective use of her ball-striking and putting on a course known for its difficulty.

Players competed under changing weather conditions at the historic Riviera venue, where shifting winds and firm conditions made scoring challenging for the entire field.

Despite the tough setup, Kupcho managed to maintain steady form and capitalized on key scoring opportunities to finish at the top of the leaderboard.

Sei Young Kim remains close behind, setting up a competitive field heading into the next round of the tournament.

The opening round saw limited low scores, reflecting the challenging nature of the course, with players emphasizing accuracy and consistency as key factors for success.

Kupcho’s performance places her in a strong position as the tournament progresses, with several top-ranked players still in contention.
