PMD Issues Heatwave Alert for Karachi

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Karachi, warning of rising temperatures over the coming week.

According to the Met Office, Karachi will likely experience temperatures between 28°C and 38°C from Saturday to Monday. Weather conditions are expected to become more severe afterward, with temperatures rising to 40°C to 43°C between June 8 and June 12.

High-Pressure System Expected

The PMD stated that a high-pressure system is likely to develop in the upper atmosphere on June 8 and may persist until June 11. This system is expected to contribute to heatwave conditions in Karachi and other parts of Sindh.

Hot, dry, and uncomfortable weather conditions are also expected across most districts of Sindh during this period, with nighttime temperatures remaining higher than normal.

Public Advisory

The weather department has advised residents to take precautionary measures during the heatwave, especially children, women, and elderly citizens.

People are advised to avoid direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and to stay hydrated to reduce the risk of heat-related illness.

Farmers have been encouraged to adjust their agricultural activities according to weather conditions and take care of livestock during the extreme heat.

The PMD also warned that electricity demand is likely to increase during the heatwave period and urged citizens to use water and energy responsibly.
