Heatwave Expected to Push Temperatures Up to 51°C in Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that severe heatwave conditions are likely to affect large parts of the country from June 7 to June 12 due to a strong high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere.

According to the PMD, the system is expected to remain active until June 11, leading to significantly above-normal temperatures across multiple regions.

Northern and Central Regions

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Mardan, Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan, temperatures are expected to remain 4°C to 6°C above normal, ranging between 41°C and 46°C from June 8 to June 11.

In northern areas such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Gilgit-Baltistan, temperatures are likely to stay between 37°C and 40°C during the same period.

Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding areas are expected to experience temperatures between 41°C and 44°C, which is around 5°C to 7°C above normal.

Punjab

Several districts of Punjab, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and others, may see temperatures rising between 44°C and 48°C from June 8 to June 11.

Sindh and Southern Areas

In Sindh, including Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Dadu, Khairpur, and surrounding areas, temperatures are forecast to reach between 48°C and 51°C from June 7 to June 12, making it one of the hottest spells of the season.

Karachi is also expected to face very hot conditions, with temperatures likely to remain between 40°C and 43°C during this period. Night temperatures are also expected to stay high.

Weather Advisory

The PMD has also warned that isolated dust storms may occur in parts of southern Punjab and Sindh due to intense heat.

Residents across affected areas have been advised to take precautionary measures, avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours, and stay hydrated.
