India iPhone parts factory clears pollution concerns after review
A Tata Electronics facility in Tamil Nadu, India that supplies components for iPhones faced temporary concerns over alleged environmental pollution, but authorities have now confirmed that no further action will be taken after inspection.
The plant, located in Hosur, was investigated by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board after local farmers raised concerns that wastewater from the factory may have affected nearby land and water sources.
Following the review, the regulator stated that concerns were addressed and no significant contamination was found during recent inspections. As a result, the case has been closed without any enforcement action.
The factory, operated by Tata Electronics, produces iPhone-related components such as backplates and forms part of the growing Apple supply chain in India.
Apple Inc. has been expanding its manufacturing base in India as part of its broader strategy to diversify production away from China. India now accounts for a significant share of global iPhone assembly and component manufacturing.
Tata Electronics said it had carried out its own testing and ensured that all environmental parameters remained within approved regulatory limits. The company also stated that it fully cooperated with authorities during the review process.
The resolution of the issue removes potential disruption for Apple’s supply chain operations in the region and allows production activities at the facility to continue without interruption.
